History

NBN Television commenced broadcasting to the Newcastle and Hunter Valley region on Sunday, 4th March 1962.

NBN’s market stretches from Central Coast in the south to the Gold Coast, Queensland in the north and west to Moree and Narrabri.

This market has a population of 1.9 million people, and is the fourth largest television market in Australia, behind Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

NBN Television is an independent affiliate of the Nine Network, and the combination of its own locally produced programs, including the region’s number one news service, with the Nine Network’s strong line-up of Australian and international programs, has seen the NBN Group consistently achieve the highest ratings for any station in a major television market across Australia.

Whilst NBN is one of Australia’s most successful broadcasters, it is also committed to providing a high level of community support and local programming.

NBN provides approximately 2000 spots of Community Service Announcements per month, and our Kids Project is a ground breaking service in our region.

Big Dog

BIG DOG is just like a big kid. He rides a bike, plays football, surfs a little, fishes a lot and even cartwheels and most of all always has fun.
The Newcastle Knights are his favourite football team.

BIG DOG is often seen helping out in the community, and in particular he is often spotted at various fund raising functions and local hospitals.

BIG DOG can be seen each evening when its time for BIG DOG and all his friends to go to bed and when he wishes them ‘Good Night Girls and Boys’.

  1. Same thing every year, NBN start running promo’s for new episodes of the mentalist then NOTHING!!!! Or you run a new episode then re-runs the next week, it’s absolute BS!! All your other shows are CRAP!! The only good thing You have is the mentalist but your thick as two planks program manager insists on pissing everyone off until we just give up and wait for the DVD. Sadly Prime is no better with their treatment of Castle fans; what is it with you CLOWNS?? When will NEW Mentalist episodes actually be screened???????

  2. Sick & tired of seeing the same add for the last 4 months in regards to a new comedy show. Give a time when it’s gong to stat, just don’t keep playing the add.

  3. OH MISSED AN EPISODE OF BIG BANG, THE MENTALIST, HOUSE HUSBANDS,
DON’T WORRY NBN WILL REPLAY IT ANOTHER 100 TIMES BEFORE THEY ARE FINISHED WITH IT.
EITHER BEFORE OR AFTER THEY REPLAY CROCODILE DUNDEE THE NEXT TIME
WE MUST BE NEARLY DUE FOR ANOTHER RERUN AS A PRIME TIME SATURDAY NIGHT MOVIE, AS ITS ONE OF THE SIX MOVIES THEY OWN.

    N.B.N
    NOTHING BRAND NEW

  4. Our Touch Footy Knockout Comp is looking for a few more individuals or teams to join in the fun on Sunday 12 October.

And for all you Newcastle Knights fans, there’s also the chance to meet ex-player Justin Ryder who will be hosting our Kids Activities morning (10am-midday) prior to kick-off.

There will also be a canteen and deelish sausage sizzle for our spectators, supporters and players. If you live in the Hunter/Newcastle area and are up for a great day out for the whole family, email Angela at adives@cerebralpalsy.org.au

  5. It was advertised that Poirot would be on Gem tonight and here I am sitting here waiting for it to commence. Instead there is that dreadful show The Block, which is also on channels 8 and 9. Isn’t that quite enough. Where does a person “escape to” to get a reprieve from this over-done, over the top, senseless yet another of this show! At least allow us the channel Gem to have your advertised shows without having to turn off yet again. Disgraceful!

  6. Why is the picture quality of NRL Games so terrible? Most footy fans expect live sport in HD. I’d be happy if it was standard definition. Watching NRL on NBN is like watching 2nd generation VHS. In the age of high definition this sub standard definition broadcast is unacceptable. I don’t bother watching live any more, I wait for the replay in HD on Foxsports

  7. Hi. Can you tell me why your Chanel megapixels and I cant watch your Chanel when I live in Newcastle I’m watching 7 ands it’s as clear as!!!!!(as is every other station,). Help

  8. When will the HD feed become available in the Newcastle area? You carried the ads, and were more than happy to say nothing about the issue, no doubt hoping that no one would notice…how ’bout some actual, factual information regarding EXACTLY when the service YOU ADVERTISED will become available?

  9. I would like to know why Big Dog has changed into a boring good night format. It used to be exciting guessing what would pop out of the clock every night, such a big deal at our place a game to see who would win. Now it’s just blah. The little kids still like it as they are happy just to see big dog, but you have ruined it for the whole family.

  10. Not meaning to be rude, but what on earth did your makeup people do to both the main news and sports readers last Saturday night.Their hair looked as if they were wearing solid black plastic wigs…

  11. The news at 6pm on Saturday, 27 May 2017 was just a waste of time. If you took out iall the crap about Corby coming back here, there was very little else. It just went on and on, schapell this or that, blah, blah blah.
You would think the Queen was coming out here not a convicted drug smuggler. I really don’t give a rats about a druggie comng back so try and lay off it.

  12. You have got to be kidding !!!! an article tonight letting young women know that pads and tampons are available. You have stooped to a new LOW. THIS IS NEWS ??? really, how embarrassing – for the viewers and for the young women. There are things that are not talked about, and still cannot believe that it is a news item.
Really ???? I am disgusted, very poor reporting and un-interesting and embarrassing and of no quality.
Tell us something that is important in our world. These private matters belong to mothers and daughters for God’s sake.

  13. Hey guys, I was just wondering if you’d be able to give me or tell me if there is a big dog suit out there. It’s for my 18th party and the theme is childhood heroes. It would be so much appreciated if you or anyone is able to help me out. Thanks.

  14. VERY SAD NBN has become part of the FAKE NEWS, showing biased anti-trump propaganda. When will it end ? Anti-racist socialists started the war but silence from the FAKE media.
